What You’ll Do

  • Provide strategic direction for the branch, formulating and implementing policies to support municipalities.
  • Promote good governance and sound municipal administration practices.
  • Facilitate effective municipal administration and capacity building initiatives.
  • Monitor and assess local government capacity, including municipal finances and supply chain management.
  • Oversee the provision of information technology and system support to municipalities.
  • Enhance governance through public participation and stakeholder management.
  • Develop and coordinate frameworks for Integrated Development Planning (IDP) and rapid response initiatives.
  • Manage district operations and promote intergovernmental relations.
  • Oversee employee relations, wellness, and human resource development within municipalities.
  • Ensure efficient management of allocated branch resources.

What You’ll Need

  • National Senior Certificate and a postgraduate qualification (NQF Level 8) in Local Governance, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in a senior managerial role, preferably within local government.
  • Pre-entry Certificate for the Senior Management Service endorsed by the National School of Government (NSG).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • A valid Code 8 driver’s license.
  • Strong understanding of public sector legislation and relevant prescripts.
  • Strategic leadership, project management, budgeting, and financial management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and people management competencies.
