The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development is seeking a strategic and experienced professional for the role of Chief Master, located at the National Office in Pretoria. This pivotal position is integral to ensuring the lawful and efficient administration of statutory functions across all Masters’ Offices in South Africa. The Chief Master will lead efforts in overseeing deceased estate administration, trust registration, guardianship, and fiduciary services, which play a crucial role in protecting the interests of beneficiaries and enhancing public confidence in these vital services.

What You’ll Do

• Provide strategic oversight of the administration of deceased estates, trusts, and fiduciary services across the Republic.
• Lead the regulatory oversight related to the Guardian’s Fund and ensure compliance with governance standards.
• Develop national policies and legal frameworks to modernise Masters’ Services and enhance service delivery.
• Manage partnerships with various stakeholders, including the judiciary and legal professionals, to strengthen governance.
• Oversee the administration of Family Advocate Services and ensure adherence to international obligations in family law.
• Drive organisational performance through effective financial management and compliance with public sector governance.

What You’ll Need

• NQF Level 8 qualification in Financial Management, Business Management, Law, or a related field, as recognised by SAQA.
• Admission as a Chartered Accountant is an added advantage.
• A minimum of eight years’ experience at a senior management level, particularly in areas of regulatory governance, deceased estates, or trusts.
• Comprehensive knowledge of South African private and constitutional law, fiduciary regulation, and public finance management.
• Exceptional strategic leadership skills and the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams effectively.
• Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving capabilities with a focus on innovation and public service values.
