We are seeking a skilled and proactive Automation & Control Engineer to design, develop, program, and maintain advanced industrial control and automation systems. In this role, you will optimize manufacturing, production, or facility processes to improve safety, efficiency, quality, and output. You will work closely with cross-functional engineering, maintenance, and IT teams to implement cutting-edge hardware and software solutions.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience: [Junior: 1–3 years / Mid-Level: 3–6 years / Senior: 6+ years] of hands-on experience in industrial automation, process control, or manufacturing environments.
• Languages: English & Afrikaans (easy to learn Dutch)
• PLC / HMI / SCADA Proficiency: Expert knowledge of major vendor platforms (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal/S7, Rockwell Automation/Studio 5000, Schneider Electric, ABB, or Emerson).
• Networking: Strong understanding of industrial networking protocols (PROFINET, Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, OPC UA).
• Instrumentation: Familiarity with field instrumentation (flow, level, pressure, temperature transmitters, and control valves).
• Hardware: Ability to read/write electrical drawings (AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN).
• Strong analytical and root-cause problem-solving capabilities.
• Excellent cross-functional communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
System Design & Integration
• Design, architect, and implement hardware and software control systems (PLCs, DCS, SCADA, HMI) for machinery and industrial processes.
• Develop control system architectures, network layouts (Industrial Ethernet, Profibus, Modbus), and electrical schematics.
• Integrate system components including sensors, actuators, drives, and safety instrumented systems.
Programming & Commissioning
• Write, test, and troubleshoot PLC/HMI/SCADA code using standard programming languages (IEC 61131-3: Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Function Block Diagram).
• Lead site commissioning, loop checks, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and site acceptance testing (SAT) for new equipment or plant expansions.
• Configure and tune PID loops and process control algorithms to ensure optimal operational stability.
Maintenance, Support & Troubleshooting
• Provide tier-2/tier-3 technical support for complex automation and control system faults, minimizing downtime.
• Perform routine backups, system upgrades, cybersecurity patches, and hardware maintenance for control servers and networks.
• Ensure strict adherence to change management protocols and version control for all software and hardware modifications.
Safety & Compliance
• Ensure all automated systems comply with local and international safety standards (e.g., ISO 13849, IEC 61508/61511) and machinery directives.
• Support safety lifecycle processes, including Risk Assessments, Safety Instrumented Functions (SIF), and functional safety verification.
