About the Role
The Department of Water and Sanitation is seeking a dedicated Control Engineering Technician Grade A (Mechanical) to join their team in Bloemfontein, Free State. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the effective management of technical services and support across area offices, contributing significantly to the maintenance and reliability of water infrastructure throughout the region. By overseeing performance and addressing breakdowns, you will help maintain essential services that directly impact the community, ensuring that all residents have access to clean and safe water.
In this position, you will be tasked with the development, implementation, and reporting of the Cluster Maintenance Plan, collaborating with contractors to meet departmental specifications and standards. What You’ll Do
- Manage technical services and provide support to area offices.
- Assist in developing and implementing the Cluster Maintenance Plan.
- Inspect contractor performance to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Address breakdowns and conduct fault findings as necessary.
- Participate in the infrastructure asset verification process.
- Oversee administrative functions, including budget inputs and reporting.
- Monitor quality control of mechanical equipment during various stages of work.
- Mentor and guide candidate technicians.
- Engage in research and development activities to improve services.
What You’ll Need
- National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- Six years of post-qualification technical experience in mechanical engineering.
- Compulsory registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as an Engineering Technician.
- Valid Code B (08) driver’s license.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer applications.
- Experience in technical design and analysis.
- Strong project management and quality control skills.
- Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and supervise personnel.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of 1993 and the PFMA.
