The Department of Transport and Public Works is seeking a skilled Artisan Production Grade A to C (Painting) to join our dedicated team at the Metro West Zwaanswyk Mobile Workshop in Retreat, Cape Town. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of hospital buildings through various painting techniques, ensuring that our facilities remain safe, welcoming, and functional for the public. Your work directly contributes to the quality of healthcare services in the community, making a significant impact on the lives of many South Africans who rely on these facilities.

As an Artisan in this department, you will perform essential administrative functions, oversee the training and supervision of subordinates, and manage tools and materials. The role also includes planning and executing new installations and alterations, as well as responding to emergency breakdowns, sometimes even after hours. What You’ll Do

• Conduct painting, glazing, and spray-painting for hospital buildings.
• Perform necessary administrative functions related to project management.
• Train and supervise subordinates to maintain high-quality standards.
• Manage tools and materials efficiently to ensure optimal use.
• Respond to emergency breakdowns and perform repairs, including after hours.
• Plan and oversee the décor for new installations and alterations.

What You’ll Need

• Appropriate Trade Test Certificate in Painting.
• For Grade A: No experience required; for Grade B: At least 18 years of relevant experience; for Grade C: At least 34 years of relevant experience.
• Valid driver’s licence (Code B/EB, manual) and willingness to travel throughout the Western Cape.
• Ability to perform standby duties as required.
• Knowledge of the Machinery and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Familiarity with SANS 10400 Building Regulation.
