About the Role
The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure is seeking a dedicated Works Inspector Electrical (Building Manager: Head) based in Pietermaritzburg, Umgungundlovu. This vital role focuses on ensuring that construction and renovation projects meet quality standards and regulatory requirements, contributing directly to the safety and functionality of infrastructure in the community. By overseeing contractors and conducting inspections, you’ll play a pivotal role in enhancing public service and the wellbeing of the citizens in your area.
In this position, you will engage with various stakeholders, collecting and analysing documentation essential for minor new and existing structures. Your work will ensure that projects not only comply with public safety standards but also align with the broader objectives of the Extended Public Works Programme (EPWP). What You’ll Do
- Conduct inspections of minor new and existing structures to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Analyse and compile documentation related to construction projects.
- Supervise the work of contractors to guarantee quality and timeliness.
- Gather and submit information pertinent to the Extended Public Works Programme (EPWP).
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to align project goals with public service needs.
What You’ll Need
- A Grade 12 certificate or equivalent qualification.
- A National Diploma (T/N/S streams) or equivalent, or N3 certification along with a passed trade test in the building environment.
- Registration as an Engineering Technician is advantageous.
- Proficiency in computer software, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and email programs.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
