What You’ll Do
- Coordinate compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.
- Develop and implement occupational health and safety policies.
- Ensure adherence to OHS standards and regulations within the department.
- Assess and monitor the effectiveness of safety programs.
- Facilitate health and safety awareness for all staff members.
- Investigate and report workplace incidents and accidents.
- Arrange medical surveillance for eligible employees.
- Conduct health and safety inspections and audits, providing recommendations.
- Organize health and safety training for personnel.
- Manage statutory appointments and coordinate provincial OHS Committee meetings.
- Compile monthly, quarterly, and annual OHS reports.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders regarding OHS matters.
- Develop emergency evacuation plans and facilitate drills.
- Supervise subordinates and promote a safety culture within the department.
What You’ll Need
- National Senior Certificate coupled with a National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Management, Industrial Sociology, or Occupational Hygiene.
- Registration with SAIOSH or SAIOH is required.
- Valid driver’s license.
- A minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in an Occupational Health and Safety environment.
- Strong knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations.
- Proficiency in incident investigation, hazard identification, and risk assessment.
- Familiarity with government legislation regarding health and safety.
- Excellent computer literacy using MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
- Willingness to work long hours and travel extensively.
- Flexibility and determination to implement policies effectively.
