What You’ll Do
- Provide specialized nursing care within an operating theatre environment.

What You’ll Need
- A Basic R425 qualification (diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
- A post-basic nursing qualification in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Operating Theatre, or a 4-year bachelor’s degree in nursing with a post-graduate diploma in Peri-operative Nursing.
- For Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years nursing experience post-registration; for Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years with at least 10 years in an Operating Theatre.
- Willingness to work in an operating theatre and assist dentists during surgeries.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to carry small children when necessary.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies of the Department of Health Western Cape.

Requirements
Minimum educational qualification: Basic R425 qualification (i.e.
diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification (R683) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
A post-basic nursing qualification, with duration of at least 1 year, accredited with the SANC in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Operating Theatre.
OR A 4-year bachelor’s degree in nursing (R174) or equivalent qualification (R171 plus R1497) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
A post-graduate diploma (R635) accredited with the SANC in Peri-operative Nursing.
Registration with a professional council: Registration with the SANC as Professional Nurse.
Experience: Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years appropriate /recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years appropriate /recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
At least 10 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/ recognisable experience in an Operating Theatre Unit after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification or postgraduate diploma in the relevant speciality.
Inherent requirements of the job: Willingness to carry small kids.
Willingness to work in Operating Theatre and Recovery room.
Willingness to assist Dentist in surgery when needed.
Valid drivers’ licence.
Competencies (knowledge/skills): Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies of the Department of Health Western Cape.
Leadership towards the realisation of strategic goals and objectives of the theatre with regard to emergency and non- emergency operating nursing, as well as day patient care.
Job Duties
Provide an optimal, holistic, specialised Nursing Care within set standards and within a professional, legal framework as a Professional Nurse in an Operating Theatre.Provision of a Quality Dental Service.
Periodically supervise and support effective utilisation of Human Resources.
Effective Supply Chain, Asset and Data Management.
Participate in training and Oral Health Promotion activities.
Practice Nursing and health care in accordance with the laws and regulations relevant to nursing and health care.
Support outreach services done.
