What You’ll Need
- A Basic R425 qualification (diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification allowing registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
- A post-basic nursing qualification in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Critical Care Nursing: Child, or a 4-year Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
- For Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years of appropriate nursing experience post-registration.
- For Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years of appropriate nursing experience post-registration, with 10 years in a relevant specialty.
- Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies of the Department of Health Western Cape.

Requirements
Minimum educational qualification: Basic R425 qualification (i.e.
diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification (R683) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
A post-basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with the SANC in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Critical Care Nursing: Child.
OR A 4-year bachelor’s degree in nursing (R174) or equivalent qualification (R171 plus R1497) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
A post- graduate diploma in Critical Care Nursing: Child.
Registration with a professional council: Registration with SANC as Professional Nurse.
Experience: Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
At least 10 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognisable experience after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification or post-graduate diploma in the relevant specialty.
Inherent requirements of the job: Willingness to work shifts, day and night duty, weekends, and public holidays to meet the operational requirements.
185 Competencies (knowledge/skills): Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies of the Department of Health Western Cape.
Leadership towards the realisation of strategic goals and objectives of the Neonatology Department.
