What You’ll Do

• Deliver comprehensive surgical care at George Regional Hospital and outreach facilities.
• Perform and supervise a wide range of surgical procedures within the public sector.
• Mentor and support medical officers, registrars, and students in their development.
• Ensure accurate clinical documentation, including patient referrals and discharge planning.
• Participate in clinical governance, audits, mortality and morbidity meetings, and patient safety initiatives.
• Complete medico-legal documentation with accuracy and timeliness.
• Contribute to responsible human resource and financial management within the department.
• Promote patient education, counselling, and community engagement efforts.

What You’ll Need

• Appropriate qualification for registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in General Surgery.
• Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in General Surgery.
• Experience requirements:
• Grade 1: No experience after registration with HPCSA.
• Grade 2: Minimum of 5 years’ experience post-registration.
• Grade 3: Minimum of 10 years’ experience post-registration.
• Valid (Code B/EB) driver’s license with the ability to travel.
• Strong clinical decision-making and leadership skills.
• Competence in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement processes.
• Proficiency in MS Office and clinical platforms (ECM, NHLS, HECTIS, PACS).
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
