What You’ll Do
- Deliver comprehensive surgical care at George Regional Hospital and outreach facilities.
- Perform and supervise a wide range of surgical procedures within the public sector.
- Mentor and support medical officers, registrars, and students in their development.
- Ensure accurate clinical documentation, including patient referrals and discharge planning.
- Participate in clinical governance, audits, mortality and morbidity meetings, and patient safety initiatives.
- Complete medico-legal documentation with accuracy and timeliness.
- Contribute to responsible human resource and financial management within the department.
- Promote patient education, counselling, and community engagement efforts.
What You’ll Need
- Appropriate qualification for registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in General Surgery.
- Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in General Surgery.
- Experience requirements:
- Grade 1: No experience after registration with HPCSA.
- Grade 2: Minimum of 5 years’ experience post-registration.
- Grade 3: Minimum of 10 years’ experience post-registration.
- Valid (Code B/EB) driver’s license with the ability to travel.
- Strong clinical decision-making and leadership skills.
- Competence in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement processes.
- Proficiency in MS Office and clinical platforms (ECM, NHLS, HECTIS, PACS).
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
