What You’ll Do

  • Provide clinical services to a psychiatric male inpatient unit and run a weekly outpatient clinic.
  • Offer care and rehabilitation to mental health care users in line with relevant legislation.
  • Conduct outreach services to District Health Services and regional hospitals.
  • Teach and train medical students, officers, psychiatry registrars, and other healthcare personnel.
  • Engage in research relevant to the Department of Psychiatry and the Gauteng Department of Health.
  • Supervise and manage junior staff, including handling disciplinary matters when necessary.
  • Participate actively in hospital management committees and quality improvement programs.
  • Develop and assist in the implementation of hospital policies and protocols.
  • Maintain professional and ethical standards while liaising with external stakeholders.

What You’ll Need

  • A medical MBBCh or equivalent degree, with an appropriate qualification in psychiatry (e.g., FC Psych (SA), MMed (Psych)).
  • Registration as a specialist psychiatrist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
  • Strong clinical knowledge and skills in psychiatry and child psychiatry.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Adept at fulfilling teaching and training responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of mental health legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to professional ethics.
  • A valid driver’s license.
