About the Role
The Department of Correctional Services is seeking passionate individuals for the role of Independent Correctional Centre Visitor (Level 5) across various correctional facilities in South Africa. This vital position will be based in multiple locations, including Bizzah Makhate Correctional Centre in Bloemfontein, Johannesburg Female Correctional Centre, and facilities in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, and Kwa-Zulu Natal regions. The Independent Correctional Centre Visitor plays a crucial role in ensuring the rights of inmates are respected while promoting transparency and accountability within the correctional system. By engaging directly with inmates and Department of Correctional Services officials, this role contributes significantly to the improvement of rehabilitation processes and the overall integrity of the public service.

What You’ll Do
- Conduct site visits to correctional facilities and report on urgent matters.
- Interview and consult with inmates and officials regarding complaints and mandatory issues.
- Capture and maintain records of all complaints and requests in the database.
- Open and manage case files, ensuring timely follow-ups on outstanding complaints.
- Prepare and submit monthly reports detailing findings and recommendations.
- Provide statistical analysis of complaints received and attend to inquiries.
- Execute reasonable instructions from the supervisor or Regional Manager.
What You’ll Need
- A Grade 12/Senior Certificate.
- Proficiency in computer skills and attention to detail.
- A recommendation or nomination as an Independent Correctional Centre Visitor from a community organization (not older than six months).
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- A public-spirited approach and sound knowledge of Batho Pele principles.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- A driver’s license is an added advantage.
- Preference will be given to applicants residing near the correctional centre where the post is available.

Requirements
Applicants must be in possession of a Grade 12/Senior Certificate.
Computer literate and accurate.
A recommendation or nomination as an ICCV by a community organization (not older than six (6) months).
Ability to work independently and as a team.
Public spirited and sound knowledge of the Batho Pele principles.
Assertiveness and ability to work under pressure.
Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing).
Driver’s licence will be an added advantage.
Preference will be given to qualifying applications received from individuals residing in communities which are in the vicinity of the correctional centre where the post needs to be filled.
Job Duties
The incumbent will be responsible for conducting site visits and reporting on urgent matters.
To conduct regular interviews and consultations with inmates and DCS officials regarding complaints and mandatory matters.
Receiving and capturing all complaints/requests on the database.
Opening and maintenance of case files.
Make follow-ups on outstanding complaints.
Submission of monthly reports.
Provide statistical analysis of all complaints received.
Attend to enquiries.
Carry out all reasonable instructions by the supervisor/ Regional Manager.
Salary
R89 046 per annum, plus 37% in lieu of benefits.
