What You’ll Do

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of Household Aids to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Assist staff with their duties during times of shortage, ensuring consistent service delivery.
  • Create and manage housekeeping duty registers for optimal staff scheduling.
  • Ensure proper segregation and disposal of waste in accordance with health standards.
  • Maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness throughout the hospital wards.
  • Order and manage stock, including cleaning equipment and kitchen supplies.
  • Oversee linen sorting and management to ensure availability and hygiene.
  • Provide support to both nursing and non-nursing personnel at the ward level.
  • Uphold the core values and Code of Conduct of the Department of Health in all actions.
  • Engage in self-development activities to enhance personal and professional growth.

What You’ll Need

  • A General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) or Grade 9 (Std 7).
  • Relevant housekeeping experience in a hospital setting.
  • Proven supervisory experience in a similar role.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting heavy equipment.
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and night shifts as required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Competencies in supervision, safety standards adherence, and hospital hygiene audits.
  • Understanding of waste management, linen management, and time management skills.

Requirements

Minimum educational qualification: General Education and Training Certificate (GETC)/Grade 9 (Std 7).

Experience: Appropriate housekeeping experience in a hospital environment.

Appropriate supervisory experience.

Job Duties

(key result areas/outputs): Supervise, co-ordinate, control and inspect the duties of the Household Aids.

Assist household staff with their duties when staff shortages occur.

Do scheduling of housekeeping duty registers.

Ensure the correct segregation and removal of different types of waste in the wards.

Maintain a high standard of hygiene and tidiness in the unit/institution.

Order and control stock and kitchen/cleaning equipment.

Ensure proper linen sorting and Linen management in the wards.

Render support to the nursing department and none nursing personnel at ward level.

Render support to the Support Services unit.

Adhere to the Code of Conduct and display the core values of the Department of Health: Western Cape Government in the execution of duties.

Maintain self-development.

Salary

R201 093 per annum
