About the Role

The Department of Finance is seeking a dedicated individual for the position of Director: Financial Accounting, based at the Head Office in Mahikeng. This vital role is essential to the integrity and transparency of financial operations within the department and significantly impacts the community’s trust in public service. As the Director, you will play a crucial role in managing creditor payments, employee salaries, and maintaining robust internal controls that ensure financial resources are managed effectively for the benefit of all South Africans.

In this position, you will oversee the administration of financial reporting, budget management, and the maintenance of the departmental BAS system. Your expertise will help the department meet its reporting requirements under the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), ensuring accountability and compliance. By managing the financial health of the Directorate, you will directly contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of public service in Mahikeng.

What You’ll Do

• Manage the administration of creditor payments and employee salaries.
• Oversee the collection of revenue and bookkeeping services.
• Ensure compliance with PFMA and Treasury Regulations.
• Develop and maintain internal financial control systems to mitigate risks.
• Manage departmental cash flow and financial reporting.
• Supervise the budget of the Directorate and compile Interim and Annual Financial Statements.
• Lead the management of human, assets, and financial resources within the Directorate.

What You’ll Need

• National Senior Certificate and a Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in Financial Management or Financial Accounting.
• A postgraduate qualification in finance will be advantageous.
• At least 5 years of experience at a middle or senior managerial level.
• A valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of PFMA, Treasury Regulations, and government procurement processes.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with conflict management abilities.
• Proficiency in advanced computer skills, strategic management, and leadership.
