About the Role
The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual for the position of Director: Demarcation and Structures Implementation, based in Pretoria. This pivotal role focuses on enhancing the implementation of the Local Government Municipal Demarcation Act and the Municipal Structures Act, which are crucial for ensuring well-structured local governance in our communities. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to the development of policy interventions that directly impact local municipalities, making a difference in the governance and service delivery to the citizens of South Africa.

What You’ll Do
- Develop and implement policy interventions to enhance local government structures.
- Provide strategic support for local government elections and related processes.
- Offer technical support on municipal boundary determinations and alterations.
- Assist municipalities in achieving sound financial governance and positive audit outcomes.
- Strengthen oversight responsibilities within councils to promote good governance.
- Ensure adherence to the Code of Conduct for Councillors.
- Lead the development of policy and legislation relating to constitutional provisions.
- Manage and administer the Municipal Systems Improvement Grant (MSIG) and oversee gratuity payments.
What You’ll Need
- An undergraduate qualification in Law or an equivalent qualification (NQF 7).
- At least 5 years of relevant experience at a middle or senior management level.
- Proficiency in MS Word; knowledge of MS PowerPoint and MS Project is advantageous.
- Successful completion of the Nyukela Senior Management Pre-Entry Programme before appointment.
- A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively.
- Strong competencies in strategic leadership, people management, project management, and financial management.
