The Office of the Chief Justice is seeking a dedicated Deputy Director: Administration and Governance Support to join its National Office in Midrand. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the Secretary General receives comprehensive administrative support, which is crucial for the smooth functioning of the judiciary’s interactions with Parliament and the Ministry. By facilitating communication and compliance with parliamentary procedures, you will play an essential part in upholding the integrity of public service in South Africa.

In this position, you will serve as a central point of contact between the OCJ leadership and Parliament, tracking parliamentary debates and committee meetings. Your contributions will not only support the effective governance of the justice system but also enhance the overall transparency and accountability of public service, thereby positively impacting the community at large.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide administrative support to the Secretary General, ensuring all committee programs are well-organized
  • Serve as the main liaison between OCJ leadership, the Ministry, and Parliament
  • Track and analyze parliamentary questions and debates related to the OCJ and judiciary
  • Draft and coordinate responses to parliamentary inquiries, ensuring timely submissions
  • Prepare briefings and reports for parliamentary committee meetings in collaboration with relevant units
  • Manage attendance coordination for parliamentary events, meetings, and debates
  • Conduct research on governance best practices and advise management on legislative matters
  • Maintain record management systems for parliamentary questions and related reports
  • Oversee the Sub Directorate to ensure compliance with governance practices and relevant legislation
  • Handle human resource functions and performance management within the team

What You’ll Need

  • National Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree, or Advanced Diploma in Political Science, Public Management and Governance, Legal, Public Administration, or a relevant qualification at NQF level 6/7
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience, with at least 3 years in a junior management role within a parliamentary or governance environment
  • A valid driver’s license; an LLB will be advantageous
  • Extensive knowledge of the Constitution, parliamentary operations, and the legislative framework
  • Strong skills in problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal relations
  • Competence in research, project management, and financial management
