What You’ll Do

  • Implement and facilitate adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and associated regulations within the region.
  • Conduct proactive and reactive inspections of state and leased facilities, including construction projects.
  • Approve and monitor contractors’ health and safety plans on construction sites.
  • Facilitate the issuance of occupancy certificates in accordance with local authority regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with access facilities for people with disabilities.
  • Provide emergency support and prepare incident reports.
  • Conduct investigations into incidents and generate comprehensive reports with recommendations.
  • Organize and facilitate training sessions for health and safety committee members.
  • Compile monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for the Occupational Health and Safety directorate.

What You’ll Need

  • A minimum of a three-year tertiary qualification (NQF level 06/National Diploma) in a built environment (Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Project Management).
  • Relevant experience in a built environment, including supervisory roles.
  • A safety management qualification or certificate is advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, National Building Standards, and municipal by-laws.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills, along with computer literacy.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, problem-solving capabilities, and leadership qualities.
  • A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as required.
