About the Role

The Metro TB Hospital Complex is seeking a dedicated Artisan Foreman Grade A to join its Technical Services team. This role is vital in ensuring the effective management of the Maintenance Department, playing a crucial part in maintaining the hospital’s infrastructure and equipment in Cape Town. By overseeing a variety of tasks including electrical work, plumbing, painting, and carpentry, you will contribute significantly to the public service by ensuring that the hospital operates at optimal standards for patient care.

In this position, you will be responsible for developing the skills of the Maintenance Department staff and ensuring that all work adheres to the Occupational Health and Safety Act. What You’ll Do

• Manage the daily operations of the Maintenance Department, ensuring efficient service delivery.
• Develop staff capabilities through training and mentoring in various maintenance fields.
• Oversee production work in electrical, plumbing, painting, and carpentry.
• Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act in all maintenance tasks.
• Plan and design new installations and alterations within the hospital facilities.
• Coordinate with contractors and monitor the progress of ongoing projects.
• Draft and manage maintenance plans for hospital equipment, ensuring timely servicing.

What You’ll Need

• An appropriate Trade Test Certificate in a relevant field.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience as an Artisan post-certification.
• A valid driver’s license (Code B/EB).
• Strong knowledge of Machinery and Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to manage a workshop and lead a team effectively.
• Proficient in MS Word and Excel for documentation and reporting purposes.
