About
The Kliptown Youth Program (KYP) is a community-driven non-profit organisation based in Kliptown, Soweto, dedicated to empowering young people through education and support. Founded in 2007 by passionate local youth, KYP was created to address the deep challenges faced by children growing up in poverty, including limited access to quality schooling, basic resources, and opportunities.
At the heart of KYP’s mission is the belief that education is the most powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty. Through structured tutoring programmes, school support, and access to technology, KYP helps learners build strong foundations in key subjects like English and maths. Their efforts have led to significantly improved matric pass rates among members, opening doors to further education and career opportunities.
Beyond academics, KYP provides holistic support through daily meals, school uniforms, psychosocial services, and career guidance. Programmes extend into tertiary education support, vocational placement, and life skills development, ensuring that young people are equipped not only to succeed in school, but also to thrive in the working world.
With additional initiatives in sports, performing arts, and community engagement, KYP fosters confidence, creativity, and leadership. Driven by a dedicated team—many of whom come from the same community—the organisation continues to uplift lives, turning potential into opportunity and inspiring the next generation to create lasting change.
