Knysna Municipality Finance Internship 2025/2026 – Empowering Female Graduates in Local Government Finance

The Municipal Finance Management Internship Programme (MFMIP) is a structured professional training and work experience initiative aimed at capacitating young graduates with practical experience and high-quality training in Local Government Financial Management.

This programme offers:

  • Practical Exposure: Hands-on experience in Municipal Budget and Treasury Offices.
  • Comprehensive Training: Aligned with the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), No. 56 of 2003.
  • Qualification Pathway: A logical training sequence culminating in a qualification in Municipal Finance Management in line with the Municipal Regulations on Minimum Competency Levels (Gazette 29967 of 15 June 2007).
  • Skills Development: Training in Finance, Internal Audit, and Risk Management departments.
  • Standard Exposure: Experience in GRAP Standards, municipal policies, and procedures.

✅ Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Background: A completed three-year Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced National Diploma (NQF Level 7) with majors in:
    • Accounting
    • Business
    • Finance
  • Additional Advantage: Studies in Internal Audit and/or Risk Management.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Computer Literacy: Proficiency in relevant software applications.
  • Geographical Requirement: Must have matriculated in the Garden Route District (Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, George, Mossel Bay, Oudtshoorn, Hessequa, or Kannaland).
  • Gender Requirement: Only female applicants will be considered.

📋 Internship Conditions

  • Internship Agreement: The successful candidate will sign an Internship Agreement in addition to the employment contract.
  • Training Participation: Interns must fully participate in all training and workplace programmes.
  • Disciplinary Code: Interns will be subject to the Municipal Disciplinary Code.
  • Annual Increases: Annual increases will be applied as determined by the South African Local Government Bargaining Council.
